17 Hours and 4 naps later, Mocking Music's official 2005 Star Wars Marathon has come to a close. Sadly, Casey did not get to do a post about my naptime but I assure you, advantage was taken.

We plan on doing this again when the DVD for Revenge of the Sith comes out. Hopefully Andrew will actually stay the entire time. Seems doubtful, but we shall see. Check back on Thursday, for a post about Revenge of the Sith.

Andrew was a little over-excited when he announced the marathon being over a few hours back. That and he was a being pussy. Sleep is for the weak, and Geoff. Does Andrew work tomorrow morning? Maybe. Do I work tomorrow morning? Moving on, we are now done. We've watched the final Clone Wars episodes, we've watched Space Balls, we've watched (the marathon has got to me, had to ask Geoff what else we watched. No really, I did) episodes 1, 2, 4, 5, 6. It was fun, but the question at the heart of it all remains unanswered.

We can only hope that the new movie reveals the answer.

Hot Blue Skin Aliens

While watching Clone Wars, Casey and I started talking about different Star Wars projects in the works, like the upcoming live action TV Show. I mentioned that Aayla Secura, a blue skin Twi'lek Jedi, has mentioned she may feature in the show. I started looking for pictures of said character, and noticed that for a blue skin girl with tentacles coming out of her head, she is quite hot.

Well, while searching, I also found a picture of Amy Allen, who plays Secura, out of costume. Casey and I agreed that we liked the blue skin more...which sounds like the ultimate geek thing to say. Oh, but it gets better. Later I found a picture of someone dressed up as Secura, which was obviously not Allen. "That' s the wrong colour blue", commented Casey after viewing it.

Revenge of the Jedi

Well, as Casey said previously, we have finished watching the feature length films, and have moved on to the Clone Wars. In the first post (or second, I suppose) I mentioned that we would be re-watching the last 30 mins of Attack of the Clones, but we decided to skip it.

I quite enjoy the ending of Return of the Jedi. The piece of music where Luke battles Vader ending in the servering of his hand, is the strongest, most emotional piece of music in the series. I am quite looking forward to seeing what they can do with the Anakin/Obi-Wan battle.

Andrew's being a big pussy (cause a Star Wars Marathon is macho, damnit), or maybe he's just being smart. Really, though, what's the difference? He's left to go to bed, but we're not quite through yet.

We're now watching Clone Wars. It's a bit weird watching animated characters after having spent most of the last 14 hours watching life action Star Wars.

Hey, You Awake?

Says Leia to Han as he gazes at the Millenium Falcon for what could be the last time. He has just agreed to let Lando use it in the Battle of Endor, while he commands the ground assult team. It's also fitting for me, as I've just returned from yet another slumber.

So now it is up to Han, Leia, and Luke to bring down the shields. Soon family secrets will be revealed and Anakin will finally be able to fulfill his destiny by bringing balance to the force.

Currently: C-3PO and Chewie are helping Casey with his cause, Chewie going after raw meat and C-3PO not able to "go against his programming". I guess soup is on. Han, Luke and Chewie are to be the main course in C-3PO's honour.

Lucas and the Sea: Fishers and Portsmen

I guess there's really only two female characters in Star Wars. It's a pretty male-centric universe. There's no mention of femal Jedi in the original (Leia has the power but, you know, she's a female). And even in the new one the females aren't main characters. This really only leaves Leia (Carrie Fisher) and Amidala (Natalie Portman). Both play essentially the same character. Strong-willed, defiant, and, of course, attractive. I don't think Lucas is much of a feminist.

Droids Deserve Respect

I would like it to be known that I am fully on the side of the Robotics Rights Movement. The horrible way Droids are treated throughout the events in these films is undeniable. Just because C3PO seems willing to accept his lot in life, doesn't make the way he is treated right. He may put on a good face towards his malfactors, but that does not mean he is not hurting on the inside. The outdated ideas of anti-Droid figures are abhorrent to any rational individual.

Movie #4 is over, and we are denigrating into senseless debate.

Paternalism of the Worst Sort

Back in the early days of the U.S. civil rights movement, before the civil war, there was a lot of false abolutionists. Even a lot of the Garrisonians that sought emancipation for the blacks did not want equal rights for them as well. I know, I was around back then. Andrew is one of these false freedom fighters. He keeps arguing that the droids aren't treated well, yet ignores the droids own expressed views on the matter. Pretty horrible, I'd say. At least I'm honest, none of this paternalistic pandering crap. I'd like to say that Andrew's horribly degrading attititude toward the fictional creatures does not reflect my own.

He simultaneously claims he wants better conditions for the droids but also devalues and disregards the expressed opinions on the matter (made by C3P0). He argues for them but does not respect their opinions. This is a throwback to early Jeffersonian arguments for abolition. Let the droids speak for themselves, I say.

Maybe all this Star Wars is getting to be.. we're at about 11 hours now. Luke is about to scream in horror when he discovers his father's identity. Poor kid.

Actually took me a while to post. The movie's over. Going into episode 6 now.

Slumber Strikes Back

It is 9:52 Pm and we're about half-way through Empire Strikes Back. Already got to see that scene mentioned earlier. Definately a lesson learn on Boba Fett's part. Laying there watching, I started to feel sleepy again. The alcohol in my system is likely not helping. Next year, if we do this again, I must definately make sure I get some sleep first.

Coming up soon is the best lightsaber battle ( so far) of the series, between Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker, where the truth about Luke's ancestry revealed. Let's hope Luke's Jedi training with Yoda serves him well. Gotta love the fact that when Luke jumps off the platform, you see him pop back up from the trampoline there to land on.

Currently: Casey and Andrew arguing droid rights. Andrew seems to be an advocate for droid rights, and Casey seems to have found another race (if you call a droid a race) to be prejeduced against. Threats are being thrown my way about what I'm posting.

Solo, Skywalker, Chewie and Kenobi are now aboard the Death Star trying to figure out how to free Princess Leia. Casey is a racist towards the entire Wookiee species:

"It's not racist if it's true, maybe it's just a dumb race"

Coming up is the first lightsaber battle to grace the movie screens. It'll will be amusing to see what the Anakin vs Obi-Wan (Revenge of the Sith) battle will be like, compared to the Vader vs Ben (A New Hope). I like the older (newer?) style in the original trilogy. Seemed like it had more class to all the jumping around in the prequels.

So far drinking hasn't really worked as far as creating dumb comments. I'm low on sleep so all it's really done is make me more sleepy instead of drunken.

Anyhow, we're now well into episode four. Toward the start of the movie, there's those little guys with the red eyes. Geoff tells me they're called Jawas. I don't have any reason to doubt this. Last weekend I noticed these so-called "Jawas" in an unusual spot . . .

Well...I fell alseep again. I really shouldn't be laying in a bed watching the movies when I haven't gotten more than 8 hours sleep in the past 4 days. It seems that Casey did, in fact, "take advatage of the moment" and took my picture.

The drinking has commenced, so hopefully we can get some drunken comments coming up. And perhaps Andrew will offset it a bit, althoguh he seems to be only posting once per movie.

Sleeping Through Space Balls

We're about half-way through watching Space Balls. I hadn't seen it in about 10 years. Now, I probably won't see it for at least another ten. It's not very funny. When you get to the tenth pun in the first 10 minutes, it's already getting old. I guess it's more a movie for Star Wars fanatics and 13 year old boys - maybe that's two in the same.

Diane Keaton and Woody Allen in "Space Balls"

If you want to watch a good sci-fi movie that's also incredibly odd, but very funny. Find Woody Allen's 1973 movie, Sleeper (speaking of which, Geoff fell asleep again). It's about a man, Woody, who's frozen and wakes up in the distant future under an authoritarian government where sex has been replaced by computers. It's a lot different (and worse) than most Woody Allen movies, but it's pretty great. Known in french as "Woody and the Robots" for some reason.

Right now, the space ship is transforming into the gigantic maid with vacuum (complete with the space odyssy [Thus Spake Zarathustra] take-off music). Time to start drinking.

The second movie was considerably more enjoyable than the first. Where the first one seemed to consentrate a great deal on comedy and apleasing a younger crowd, the second showed increased seriousness and maturity. Also, the second film only had one annoying character (Anakin), and he was considerably less agravating then was his child self. Hopefully the upcoming "Revenge of the Sith" will follow this trend.

The Second movie is coming to an end - hard to believe we've only watched two so far.

This one was generally a hell of a lot better than episode one. The big scene everyone was hyped up about when it went to theatres was Yoda battling with a light saber. I've seen it three or four times now and I still can't decide whether it's really cool, or incredibly lame. One or the other . . .

The main flaw in the movie is, again, Anakin who's a creepy stalker throughout. I still don't get how the dynamics of Amidala and Anakin are supposed to make sense.
Best/worse scene:
Anakin:I killed all of them. Not just the men, the women and the children.
Amidala: Awww... That's all right.. widdle cutie

Poor Yoda.

You know the other members of the Jedi Council must be making fun of himbehind his back. I mean, why can't he speak normally? In the original movies it made some sense, because he was the old wizened sage full of Jedi mystery - of course he's going to adopt a sage-like speech pattern. Here, though, there's a bunch of (lesser) Jedis and none of them get confused about sentence structure.

I imagine it must be especially aggravating for the troops he's ordering about toward the end.

Float Away, Like The Rest of the Trash

We recently watched the battle in the Geonosis astreoid field between Obi-Wan in his Jedi Starfighter and Jango Fett in the Slave 1. At the end, Kenobi ends up pretending to be destroyed, all the while being attached to an asteroid to avoid detection.

A similar tactic was used by Han Solo in Empire Strikes Back, to avoid the clutches of Darth Vader. I realized when I saw Attack of the Clones for the first time, that it was used as a throwback to the original trilogy. What I did not notice until now is that it also adds to the plot a bit.

You see, Boba Fett realizes the tactic used by Kenobi and learns from it. In Empire Strikes Back, Fett was the only one not to be fooled by Solo's tactic. He stays behind and follows Solo when he comes out of hiding. Clever on Lucas' part, or just coincidence? Who knows....

Now That I'm Well Rested

As Casey mentioned, I fell asleep. Only the second movie in and my four hours of sleep the night before is taking it's toll. It will be interesting to see how the night goes...especially if alcohol ever gets involved.

Anakin has just finished being creepy, and now Obi-Wan is being shown the Clone Army. Oh wait, enter another creepy Anakin scene.

Don't worry, Casey has been shown the location of the digital camera, so that the next time fall asleep, he will be able to take advantage of the moment.

Geoff seems to have fallen asleep. I was going to take a picture of him, but I can't find his damn camera - and waking him up to ask where the camera is would kind of defeat the point . . .

As Andrew noted, the first movie is over. Good. Not much I can say about it other than the fight scene music at the end is really great - reminds me of Orff's "Carmina Burana".

We're now watching episode II - Anakin has passed from being an irrating little kid (who actually says "yippee"?) to an irrating, soon to be murderous, teenager.

On the bright side, Natalie Portman is a lot older in this movie so it's not so creepy that she's hot. Geoff had to mention that she's something like 13 in that movie. Ick.

Currently: "Why do I get the feeling you're going to be the death of me?" (har har); now there's the anti-tobacco scene in the bar with the dude selling Death sticks.

Phantom Menace Ends

The first movie is over, and I have been convinced that I must post at least once per film. It is a very annoying film to watch, espessially compaired to the original three.

Lex Luthor Prisoner of Trade Federation

It is currently 1:10 PM and the Queen has revealed her true identity to the Gungans. We would have been further along, except Andrew was convinced that Darth Maul had comitted suicide and fallen to his doom early on. This prompted slow motion viewing of the scene in question. Later on, Casey was convinced that Sio Bibble was played by Superman's nemesis, Gene Hackman...but alas, he was mistaken.

Actually, in the time it took me to write this, we encountered another scene which prompted a quick rewind. Time for Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan to kick some Darth Maul ass....obviously nothing can happen to the two ,main characters of the movie. They'll have no problems.

The Race Is On

Jabba the Hutt has made his appearance and the pod race scene has begun and immediately Casey and Andrew thought of their attempts of at the pod racing level in Lego Star Wars. It's amazing how accurate the Lego videogame is to the movies. Too bad, their attempts did not look quite as impressive as the movie.

Crashing the pod...I think I've seen this scene at least 100 times

What will poor Anakin do? It seems he's having engine troubles. Could this be the end of the race for him? Will the Jedi get the parts they need? Who knows...

Innocent Kids Use Jar Jar Dolls As . . .

I'd completely forgotten how incredibly annoying Jar Jar is. You'd think Lucas would be above creating racial stereotypes. I'm sure the general response to that accusation is that he isn't a racial stereotype, but his similarity to the old "Uncle Tom" image of Black slaves is a bit too obvious. Little Anakin isn't here yet either . . . forgot how annoying this movie is.

1) Episode I: Phantom Menace, The
2) Episode II: Attack of the Clones
3) Episode IV: A New Hope
4) Episode V: Empire Strikes Back
5) Episode VI: Return of the Jedi
6) Rewatch Last 30 mins of Attack of the Clones
7) Clone Wars Volume I

With Mel Brooke's Spaceballs thrown in, likely between 2 and 3.

2005 Star Wars Marathon

Welcome to Mocking Music's official blog for the 2005 Star Wars Marathon. On Tuesday, May 17th (2 days prior to the theatrical release of Revenge of the Sith), we will be taking part in a day-long Star Wars marathon in anticipation of the upcoming prequel.

Those involved in the marathon are Casey and I, of Mocking Music, plus Andrew. The schedule includes:

Star Wars: Episode I: Phantom Menace, The
Star Wars: Episode II: Attack of the Clones
Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope
Star Wars: Episode V: Empire Strikes Back, The
Star Wars: Episode VI: Return of the Jedi
Star Wars: Clone Wars: Volume I
and finally Star Wars: Clone Wars: Volume II

The order has yet to be determined. Although normally you expect to go chronologically, we may be ending off on Clone Wars, so that it flows into Episode III more smoothly.
